Mindfulness Practices and Applications for Law Enforcement
GA POST Course Number: NPS02G
GA POST Course Number: NPS02G
WHY? A high percentage of first responders suffer intense job-related stress, which can lead to sleeplessness, anxiety, cynicism, substance abuse, social disconnectedness, and even suicidal ideation. When practiced regularly, mindfulness can help alleviate these detrimental effects and build resilience.
WHAT? Mindfulness encompasses an entire toolbox of techniques—not only meditation. One type of practice may be used for relaxation, for example, while another may be used to improve one’s ability to focus. HOW? Course participants are introduced to methods to 1) reduce chronic stress. 2) manage sleep deprivation. 3) practice emotional self-awareness and applied compassion. |
The curriculum is designed specifically to address aspects of mindfulness that are particularly applicable to the needs of law enforcement officers—on and off the job.
